<p>From a small business stand point, when it comes to social media marketing, the idea is to gain a following of both existing and potential customers, and if possible, a following of Twitter users with specific intrests that&#8217;s relevant to your product or services. </p>
<p>Growing a list of existing customers via Twitter can be done by letting your customers know that your on Twitter, and by proving a reason for them to follow you such as  tweeting special discounts or anything that would be of VALUE to your existing customers. Their are many people who access Twitter from their mobile phones, so you can expect a high percentage of your Twitter list, to receive your tweets, even if their away form a laptop or computer. </p>
<p>While growing a list of existing customers on Twitter may be a more straight forward task, growing a list of potential customers, may take a more strategic approach.</p>
<p>This can be done by manually searching random Twitter users and searching for locations and then following, but that can be very time cinsuming as well as boring. A more faster approach, would be to use a website that&#8217;s dedicated to finding local Twitter users, or a software that could fully automate the process.</p>

<p>Loca Follow is a free website that allows users to find people on Twitter by bio,location,name, and or tweets, and allow users to manually following people on Twitter by clicking &#8220;following&#8221;. Currently Loca Follow will only pull up 64 results as their results comes from Google API and not Twitters. Google will only provide 64 results to Loca Follow.</p>
<p>Although 64 results is equivalent to 64 people who you may manually follow, you can find up to 64 results in each individual city, if you providing services in multiple states.</p>

<p>While it&#8217;s apparent that social media can be a huge business booster, what&#8217;s not apparent, is how to use social media sites to bring in more business and  connect with existing customers.</p>
<p>That being said, in this post I&#8217;ll go over a basic social media marketing strategy for small business owners.</p>
<p>Starting off, below are four steps lay-ed out to implementing a successful social media strategy.</p>
<p><strong>1.Customize Your Brand</strong></p>
<p>Customizing your brand can make a big difference in your social media strategy, as the more and better your social branding design can stand out and grab the attenttion of others, the better chance you&#8217;ll have of connecting with your targeted audiences on social networks.  </p>
<p>Now days branding is hugely important on social networks and creating a profile on social media sites alone without adding customize features (Pictures,slogans,freebies,call to actions,etc.) will not get the job done. The objective is to connect with your targeted audiences, and draw interest, almost instantaneously as a picture is worth a  thousand words. <!-- ~~ads~~ -->

<p>The overall objective with branding is to providing an opportunity for your specific targeted audiences to get to know what your brand is about, without over complicating things, and what your business is about should be obvious to anyone who lands on your social profile or read your content.</p>
<p><strong>2.Develop a Targeted Audience</strong></p>
<p>Quite simply,  the more targeted your following is on social media sites, the more successful and responsive your overall social media marketing strategy will be. Their are a number of ways to generate a target following of people that may be more likely to have an interest in your products or services.</p>
<p>The concept here is  to limit following people that may not be relevant to your target market, by focusing on people who be more likely to have an interest in your product or services. While it is nearly impossible to know if someone would have a guaranteed interest in your product of services, it is possible to to find people who has a better chance of becoming a customer than others.</p>
<p>Finding people on social media sites that&#8217;s more than likely to have an interest in your product or services can be done by the following:</p>
<li>
<div>Following people by city and state. (This would be necessary for local businesses that services specific areas)</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Following people by age,gender,race,etc. (Following <strong>women</strong> over the <strong>age of 17 </strong>would be more appropriate for a nail saloon)</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>following people on social sites who&#8217;s apart of  specifics social groups or social communities that&#8217;s relevant to your product or service.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Following people by relevant tweets. (On Twitter, it is possible o following people who tweet out messages that may be relevant to your product or services)</div>

<p><strong>3.Their has to be Reason (Give your social following and contacts a reason to take action)</strong></p>
<p>While having a social media following of targeted followers is certainly a NECCESSITY by all means, a more important aspect of your social media strategy, may be the ability to develop effective call to actions. A call to action can be anything that prompts your following to complete a certain actions such as contacting your business, visiting your website, joining your email or mobile list, etc.</p>
<p>In order for someone to call you or visit your website, their has to be a REASON, and this reason is YOUR  job to not just provide, but do a great job at providing it. In fact, the better your ability to provide reasons, for some one to click from another site to your site, or contact your business by phone, the more successful your overall social media marketing strategy will be.</p>
<p>Their are many things that can be done to develop a successful call to action as well as reasons for someone to partake in your call to action. For the most it&#8217;s about thinking outside the box and testing different things to see if they work, and of course, when finding something that works for your business model, stick with it and do more of it.</p>
<p><strong>4.Stay Active</strong></p>
<p>Once your happy with your results and your overall social media strategy, the next thing to do is stay active and maintain your social profiles, by interacting with your audiences and keeping things worthwhile for your audiences to stay interesting. This can  by offering new discounts, coupons,incentives, and or content (depending on your market) on a weekly or monthly basis.</p>
<p>Another thing to do is keep up with that changes that often take place on social media sites. This can be a job in itself, and in this case, hiring a social media consultant to manage and maintain your social media activity can be a huge time saver.</p>
<p>Leveraging social media for business is very affordable and can be done through hiring a social media consultant, or doing it yourself. The main objective is two just start getting it done!</p>

<P>While signing up and verifying your Google Listings is fairly simple, a more complex task would be optimizing your Google Places listings.</P><br />
